Rain pushing northeast

[Updated 08:45 30/04/2017]

Puddle

Sunday begins with outbreaks of rain in the south west and parts of the north west. Elsewhere it is mostly dry.

Through the day wet weather slowly spreads northeastwards, affecting much of southern England, Wales and Northern Ireland this afternoon. In the south the rain becomes heavy at times. Northern and eastern areas remain dry with bright spells. It will be windy.

Temperatures in the wet areas will be around 11C (52F) but in sunny spells a warmish 17C (63F) could be reached.

Tonight rain continues in southern and central regions. The north stays dry.

May Day brings a north to south split in the weather. The northern half of the UK has a dry and bright day, but in the south rain continues in places. The progression and extent of the rain is during the next 48 hours is still uncertain, so keep an eye on the postcode forecasts and rain radar for the latest view.

During the rest of the week high pressure builds to the north and an easterly flow develops. Northern regions should be dry, but in the south the risk of showers continues. It will be chilly in eastern counties, but warm in the west and north west. Buzz looks at mid term outlook.
