Bank Holiday weekend rain

Thursday begins fine in the southern half of the UK but there has been a sharp frost overnight. Elsewhere it's milder with wet weather affecting northern England and eastern Scotland.

Today cloudy skies and showery rain steadily push southwards. Central and eastern could have some heavy bursts of rain, but in the west it will be patchier and there is a better chance of it staying bright. Northern Ireland and Scotland have a mostly dry afternoon.

Maximum temperatures won't vary much across the country, ranging from 10C (52F) to 12C (54F). See the radar for the latest view.

Tonight rain fades away in southern counties to leave a dry night. It won't be as cold as recently.

Tomorrow looks mostly dry. Bright spells develop but a few showers could break out during the afternoon. In the north west cloud cover increases.

The Bank Holiday weekend will bring mixed weather. On Saturday central and eastern areas have sunny spells, but elsewhere cloud builds and a few showers are possible. During Sunday heavy rain reaches the south west and steadily spreads northeastwards into central areas. The wet weather pushes into Scotland on May Day and there is a chance of further rain reaching south west England. Buzz looks at the Bank Holiday curse.
