Wintry blast next week?

[Updated 07:20 20/04/2017]

Snow scene

April has been mild so far despite some cold nights. The Central England Temperature (CET) to the 18th is 2.2C above the average but things could change next week!

This morning much of the country is overcast and drizzly, but clear spells to the south of London have led to a touch of frost locally. Through the course of the day wet weather pushes into the north west, but elsewhere it will be mostly dry. Some sunny spells are likely with the best of them in central and northeastern areas.

Temperatures range from 11C (52F) under cloud cover to 16C (61F) in the sun. See the radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet and windy weather affects western and northern Scotland. Other areas remain mostly dry.

Tomorrow a fragmenting band of rain pushes southwards into northern England. To the south it stays dry and sunny spells develop.

Saturday looks generally dry, but thicker cloud could bring scattered showers to the north and east. On Sunday rain spreads into Scotland but elsewhere it should be fine.

Early next week high pressure builds to the west and cold Arctic air sweeps down across the UK. In the north significant snowfall is possible. Buzz investigates.
