Last of the early warmth

[Updated 08:15 09/04/2017]

Easter eggs

April has been a very warm month to date with the Central England Temperature (CET) provisionally 2.9C above the average. In the run up to Easter things are set to change.

This morning it's sunny in much of the UK. As we head through the day outbreaks of rain develop in the north west, and they slowly edge southeastwards across Northern Ireland and much of Scotland. Cloud cover builds in Wales and western England, but elsewhere it stays fine and conditions look great for a barbecue!

Temperatures range from 16C (61F) in Scotland to a very warm 23C (73F) in east England. See the radar for the latest view.

Tonight cloud and light rain spread southeastwards. Clear skies return to the north and in rural areas a frost could develop by the morning.

Tomorrow will be much cooler with temperatures probably not climbing above 14C (57F). Bright spells develop, but thicker cloud will bring a scattering of showers.

During mid-week it stays changeable and chilly, but the south shouldn't see much rain. In the north showers turn wintry at times and frosts are likely.

Current indications suggest quite a cold and mixed Easter period. In the north there is a risk of snow. Buzz looks ahead to Easter.

Ensembles at a glance

The 16 day GEFS shows cooler and changeable weather but in the south it stays quite dry. The last third of April looks wetter.
