Heavy showery rain today

[Updated 07:10 28/03/2017]

Showery clouds

Tuesday begins dry and cool. Locally in the north it has been cold enough overnight for a touch of frost.

This morning showery rain develops in the south west and Wales, but elsewhere it stays dry with a few bright spells. During the afternoon showers become more widespread and affect much of the UK, but they will be scattered in the south and east. Scotland probably has a dry day.

Temperatures could reach a warm 18C (64F) in eastern England, but the north and west will be cooler. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight another band of rain pushes northeastwards. Scotland and south eastern England remain mostly dry.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain are likely to be widespread, but the south east probably hangs on to dry weather. In the west and north west the rain becomes heavy at times.

Unsettled conditions continue in the west and north on Thursday. Central and eastern England have dry periods and in sunny spells temperatures could soar to 21C (70F).

Friday and the weekend look changeable. As high pressure builds back in from the south west it should generally turn drier. Buzz looks ahead to April.

Outdoor season

The outdoor season is here again. In the short term there's the new F1 season, the Grand National and the Boat Races on the Thames in London. Our summer Event weather calendar is being updated and if you'd like something added please contact us.

Ensembles at a glance

The 16 day GEFS show below average amounts of rain and above average temperatures for much of the time. Rain is more likely in the north and west.
