March has been a very mild month so far with the Central England Temperature (CET) provisionally 2.8C above the average. However, the weather will have a more wintry flavour in the next few days.
This morning it's a wet start in much of the country. Through the day clearer and colder conditions push into northern and western regions, but showers develop and they become increasingly wintry over northern hills. In southern and central England rain continues and there will be some heavy bursts mixed in.
Temperatures range from about 6C (43F) in Scotland to 13C (55F) in the south east. See the radar for the latest view.
Tonight northern and western regions have further wintry showers, but drier weather returns to the south. It will be cold with a frost in places.
Tomorrow showers become widespread and they fall as snow at times in the north. During the afternoon an area of more persistent rain is likely to spread into Wales and western England and it pushes eastwards overnight. Over the Pennines significant snowfall is possible. The risk of showery rain and hill snow continues on Wednesday.
During Thursday and Friday high pressure begins to build over the north of the UK, so the showers become increasingly confined to southern counties. It remains chilly with a nighttime frost risk.
During the weekend high pressure remains in charge of the weather. This brings drier conditions and it probably turns warmer. Buzz looks ahead to April.
The 16 day GEFS shows a mixed outlook. All regions start unsettled but during the last week of March it turns drier. After a chilly start temperatures quickly recover.
