Mixed weather this week

[Updated 07:10 13/03/2017]

Spring scene

The new working week starts mostly dry but in Scotland there is some showery rain. It is colder than recent mornings and locally there has been a touch of frost.

Through the rest of the day it stay dry across the southern half of the country, and sunny spells develop quite widely. Northern regions remain cloudier and there could be a few spots of rain at times. During the afternoon winds strengthen in the north west.

Despite the chilly start it will be another mild day. Temperatures this afternoon range from about 10C (50F) in Scotland to 14C (57F) in the south. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet and windy weather pushes across Northern Ireland and western Scotland. Elsewhere it will be dry and quite mild.

Tomorrow patchy spells of rain affect the north and west. In western Scotland the rain is likely to be more persistent and heavy. Southern and eastern areas have a dry and very mild day with bright spells. Locally temperatures could reach 19C (66F). Wednesday brings more very mild weather but some drizzle and light rain may push southwards.

During the second half of the week a transition to more unsettled weather is expected to develop. This leads to an increasing likelihood of showers and longer spells of rain affecting all areas. Temperatures also take a dip back towards the mid March average. Over high ground in Scotland it could be cold enough for snow at times.

Buzz looks at the very mild weather in the next few days.
