Rain for most this weekend

[Updated 07:15 04/03/2017]

Rainy weather

The weekend weather prospects are looking very mixed. This morning it's wet in much of the north but southern and central regions are mostly dry.

As we head through the day heavy rain continues spreading northwards across Scotland and Northern Ireland with drier conditions slowly returning from the south. In Wales and western England showers develop this morning and during the afternoon they push eastwards.

Temperatures range from 5C (41F) in Scotland to 11C (52F) in the south west of England. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

This evening it becomes dry in much of the country. During the course of the night showers push eastwards across the north and outbreaks of rain develop in the south west.

Tomorrow morning begins with heavy outbreaks of rain in much of Wales and central England. Through the day wet conditions affect much of the country but Scotland should remain mostly dry. In the south it will be windy.

Early next week the weather remains unsettled and all regions having further spells of wet weather. By mid-week it may turn dier in the south as high pressure builds, but it remains unsettled in the north. Towards next weekend there are indications of a change to a much colder pattern. High pressure could become centred to the west of the UK and if this happens the gates will open for a late season Arctic blast. This could bring the risk of snow southwards.
