Rain, rain and more rain

[Updated 08:20 03/03/2017]

The coming days will be very unsettled with all parts of the UK seeing significant rainfall. To get an idea of forecast distribution and totals, check the Will it rain? page.

Friday begins with wet weather in the south and through the course of the day it slowly spreads northwards. Drier conditions return to southern counties for a time, but during the afternoon more rain pushes into the west. Scotland stays mostly dry but cloud cover builds.

Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in Scotland to 11C (52F) in the south west of England. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight the rain reaches southern Scotland but the north should be dry. In England and Wales wet weather pushes eastwards.

Tomorrow rain continues in Northern Ireland and Scotland with snow over the mountains. Central and eastern England become mostly but heavy showers spread into the west. The unsettled weather continues on Sunday with another band of wet weather pushing eastwards across England and Wales.

Early next week a respite is expected in the south as high pressure begins to influence the weather, but it remains unsettled in the north. Through the second half of the week there are indications of a change to a much colder pattern. High pressure could become centred to the west of the UK and if this happens the gates will open for a late season Arctic blast. This could bring the risk of snow southwards.
