February has been quite mild but it is ending on a chilly note. This morning it's a showery start across the UK.
Through the course of Monday all regions have showers. Across the southern half of the UK they are likely to be heavy and frequent. In the north they should be more scattered and that is where the best of the drier periods will be. As colder air is pulled southwards the showers turn increasingly wintry in the north and west.
Temperatures range from 4C (46F) in Scotland to 10C (50F) in the south east. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.
Tonight it becomes mostly dry away from coastal areas. Under clear skies quite a widespread frost develops by the morning.
Tomorrow morning heavy showers in the north west could merge together to give longer spells of rain. During the course of the day the wet weather pushes southeastwards, and over high ground there is a risk of sleet and snow. Northern England and much of Scotland should be drier in the afternoon. It will feel cold in all regions.
Wednesday marks the start of the meteorological spring. Unfortunately it is expected to remain unsettled with outbreaks of rain pushing northeastwards. During the rest of the week further spells of wet weather spread eastwards, with the heaviest rain likely in central and southern regions. In the south it becomes milder, but the north probably remains colder with a risk of snow over higher ground. Buzz looks ahead to early March.
The 16 day GEFS show unsettled conditions early in the period. The second week of March could bring drier weather and an increasing risk of frost.
