Fine and chilly for most

[Updated 08:20 24/02/2017]

Storm Doris has now moved away and Friday begins mostly dry. The day ahead will bring a fine late winter's day to much of the UK.

This morning sunny spells develop widely across southern and central regions but in the north there will be scattered wintry showers. During the afternoon cloud thickens in the north west and outbreaks of rain develop, but elsewhere it remains dry and bright. In the north west winds strengthen, and as the rain pushes eastwards it turns to snow over the high ground in Scotland.

Temperatures range from 3C (37F) in Scotland to 9C (48F) in the south west. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight wet and windy weather spreads eastwards. In central and northern regions the rain is likely to be quite heavy, but in the south it will be patchy.

Tomorrow wet weather affects most regions. In the west heavy rain is likely, but in eastern counties it is expected to be lighter and intermittent. It will be milder in all regions. During Saturday night drier conditions returns from the west, but by Sunday morning further heavy bursts of rain return to the north west. Through the course of the day the rain extends across the country, but the heaviest outbreaks probably don't reach the east until late in the afternoon.

Early next week the unsettled weather continues with all areas having further spells of wet weather. It will become colder, especially in the north where there is a risk of snow. Buzz looks ahead to early March.
