Milder week in prospect

[Updated 07:10 13/02/2017]

Sunset

Monday begins mostly dry. It is quite chilly but for the first time in several days there isn't a widespread frost.

The rest of the day will be dry in the southern half of the country. Sunny spells develop quite widely but in the south west there is likely to be more cloud. In the north thicker cloud could bring some light and patchy rain at times.

It will be windy with gales in the west. The north remains cold, but the south has a milder day and in the south west temperatures could reach 10C (50F). See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

This evening it remains mostly dry and clear periods lead to a patchy frost. During the second half of the night thicker cloud and wet weather push into the south west.

Tomorrow patchy spells of rain extend across south western England, Wales and Northern Ireland. Elsewhere it remains dry but cloud builds across southern counties. The south has quite a mild day but in the north it remains chilly.

As we head through the rest of the week milder air steadily pushes northwards. Wednesday will be very mild in the south but there is a risk of heavy showery. After this the general theme is for high pressure to bring a good deal of dry weather to the south and east, with rain more likely in the west. During the days it could feel quite spring-like in the south as temperatures push into the low teens celsius. Despite this clear periods could lead to quite chilly nights. Buzz takes a look at short term snow risk.
