Sunday begins with temperatures hovering around 0C (32F) in much of the country. Scotland and Northern Ireland are mostly dry. Elsewhere there are patchy outbreaks of rain, sleet and wet snow.
Through the course of the day the rain, sleet and snow steadily edges into northern England and possibly Northern Ireland. Brighter spells could develop in southern counties and Scotland should remain dry. Winds strengthen with gales affecting western counties during the afternoon and evening.
Maximum temperatures range from to 3C (37F) in much of the UK to 6C (42F) in the south west. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.
Tonight the wet weather pushes northwards. Southern and central regions have a mostly dry night and locally there could be a touch of frost by the morning.
Tomorrow the rain and hill snow in the north peters out to leave a mostly dry day. Some sunny spells develop but it will be windy with gales in the west. The north remains quite cold but the south has a milder day.
As we head through the week the milder air steadily pushes northwards. There is a risk of some rain, but areas of high pressure to the south and east of the UK are expected to weaken Atlantic weather fronts and slow down their eastwards progression. This should lead to a good deal of dry weather and in the south it could feel quite spring-like at times with temperatures pushing into the low teens celsius. The 16 day GEFS shows milder weather returning in the short term and continuing for much of the rest of the month. A good deal of dry weather is shown but rain is more likely in the west and north west .
