Thursday begins unsettled and wet across much of the UK but it is mild. Through the day outbreaks of rain push eastwards and in southern counties these become heavy. It will be very windy with gales in the west. During the afternoon severe gales are possible in exposed parts of the south west.
Temperatures range from 6C (42F) in Scotland to 12C (54F) in the south west. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight central and eastern areas become drier. Western regions have further showery outbreaks of rain.
Tomorrow morning a band of wet weather pushes into the south west and through the day this spreads northeastwards. Rain becomes heavy in western and northern regions but in the east it will be patchier. It will be very windy with 60mph gusts possible in the south.
On Saturday rain is likely in the north and possibly southern coastal counties too, but elsewhere it should be mostly dry. Sunday looks dry in much of the country but wet weather could fringe southern areas.
Next week it's all eye to the east. High pressure building over Scandinavia will allow bitterly cold air to push westwards across continental Europe. Latest guidance suggests falling temperatures but there uncertainty about whether the main cold block will reach as far west as the UK. Buzz takes a look.

The 16 day GEFS ensemble favours rather cold conditions for much of the period with a risk of rain or snow. However, both very cold and mild outcomes are possible.
