Friday begins with a mixed picture across the UK. Central and eastern Britain is frosty, and in East Anglia there is some light rain and snow. Western areas are less cold and in Northern Ireland there are some light outbreaks of rain.
During the day some bright spells are possible but there will be quite a lot of cloud around. In the south and west outbreaks of rain develop during the afternoon but elsewhere it remains dry.
Top temperatures range from 2C (36F) in Scotland to 7C (45F) in southern England. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.
Tonight wet weather pushes northeastwards. The rain becomes heavy at times and in the north it turns to snow over higher ground.
The weekend weather prospects look mixed. Tomorrow starts wet in much of the country but brighter and showery conditions return from the west. It will be cold in the north but temperatures in the south should be close to the late January average. Sunday may begin damp in the south east but elsewhere it should be dry. During the morning outbreaks of rain develop in the south west and through the day these spread northeastwards.
Next week it remains changeable with all regions having spells of wet weather. Temperatures are likely to be close to average in the north but the south could be quite mild at times. Buzz takes a look at the prospects.
