Frosty start in the south east

Tuesday begins frosty in the south east with temperatures as low as -5C (23F) locally. Elsewhere it is milder and cloudier.

Through the day it stays dry in the south east with sunny spells. Scotland and Northern Ireland also have some brighter spells, but across central and northern England thicker cloud could bring a little patchy rain.

Temperatures range from 4C (39F) in the south east to 11C (52F) in the north west. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.

Tonight frost and fog return to the south east. Elsewhere temperatures remain above freezing and in central regions there could be some drizzle.

Tomorrow the south east may be cloudier and slightly milder. Much of the north has a dry day with some bright spells, but patchy rain is likely in the far north west.

Through Friday and the weekend high pressure remains dominant. It is expected to be cold in all regions and nighttime frost becomes increasingly widespread. On Sunday an upper level cold pool of air over the UK could lead to a few snow flurries.

The latest guidance for next week suggests a slow transition back to more unsettled weather from the north west. The details are uncertain and there is a good chance of high pressure bringing further dry weather to southern and central regions for much of the time. Buzz takes a look at the prospects.
