Friday begins cold and windy with temperatures close to 0C (32F). Across northern England there is a band of rain, sleet and snow. To the south of this it is mostly dry but to the north there are heavy wintry showers.
This morning the wet weather pushes southeastwards and in places it gives a covering of snow. London and the south eastern corner could see some snow before drier conditions return in the early afternoon. In the north and west heavy wintry showers continue.
It will be cold with temperatures ranging from 2C (36F) in Scotland to 5C (41F) in the south. See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.
Tonight heavy snow showers continue in Scotland and they possibly become more prolonged. Elsewhere wintry showers affect coastal counties and there is a chance of some running southeastwards towards London. A widespread frost develops.
Tomorrow early wintry showers in the south east clear away but some continue near the east coast. Elsewhere it should be mostly dry but during the second half of the day outbreaks of rain and snow return to the north west.
On Sunday a band of rain followed by milder air pushes southeastwards. This may be preceded by snow and there is uncertainty about how quickly the milder air reaches the south east.
Next week high pressure becomes dominant again. This leads to cold weather in the south but in the north west it will be milder. Buzz takes a look at today's snow risk.
The 16 day GEFS ensemble shows predominantly cold weather in the south but a milder period in the north west during the first half of next week. The last week of January may be more mixed.
