Thursday begins with a widespread and sharp frost. Temperatures at Benson, Oxfordshire fell to -7C (19F) overnight.
The rest of the day brings dry weather to most of the country. Sunny spells develop this morning but during the afternoon cloudier skies extend across northern regions. In the north west patchy rain arrives by the early evening.

Tonight frost returns to southern and central regions. In the north west wet and windy weather slowly pushes southeastwards.
Tomorrow heavy outbreaks of rain spread southeastwards with drier and milder conditions following on behind into the north. The main band of wet weather reaches the London area during the late afternoon.
The weekend looks mixed. Early on Saturday persistent rain clears the south to leave mostly dry conditions, but the north west may remain drizzly. Sunday should be dry and bright in central and eastern areas but in western parts of the UK thicker cloud brings the risk of damp weather.
Next week after a mild start a west to northwesterly flow is expected to develop. The details are uncertain but colder Arctic air may push southwards across the UK.

The 16 day GEFS ensemble shows cold conditions early but temperatures then recover. During the second week a mild start is shown before it turns colder and more changeable. The risk of snow increases in the north.
