Bank holiday Monday begins cold and there has been a widespread frost overnight. Wintry showers are affecting northern Scotland and Northern Ireland but elsewhere it is dry.
During the day showers continue in the north and a few are likely near the east coast too. Elsewhere it will be a crisp winter's day with long sunny periods.
Temperatures this afternoon range from about 4C (39F) to 7C (45F). See the rainfall and precipitation type radar for the latest view.
Tonight a widespread frost quickly returns across England and Wales. In Scotland and Northern Ireland cloud builds and there could be some patchy rain.
Tomorrow southern and central regions have a bright day but in the north it will be cloudier and less cold. In the north west showerry outbreaks of rain develop.
Through the middle of the week high pressure keeps things dry and quite cold in southern and central regions. In the north it becomes more changeable and by the weekend milder conditions push southwards across all regions.
Next week after a mild start a west to northwesterly flow is expected to become established. The details are very uncertain but there are signs of high pressure building northwards in the mid-Atlantic and colder Arctic air pushing southwards across the UK. Buzz looks ahead to mid January.
The 16 day GEFS ensemble shows cold conditions early but temperatures then recover. During the second week a mild start is shown before it turns colder and more changeable.
