Christmas countdown

[Updated 08:50 18/12/2016]

Winter scene

The forecast details for Christmas are still uncertain. To keep up to date with the latest view check out our Christmas Countdown which is updated daily.

This morning starts murky across the south with dense fog in places. In the north it is mostly dry but there are some patchy outbreaks of rain scattered around.

Through Sunday the fog lingers in parts of the south making it feel quite cold. The north has a mostly dry day and some brighter spells develop.

Maximum temperatures range from about 7C (46F) in the gloomy south to 11C (52F) in northern Scotland. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.

Tonight patchy spells of rain reach the north west. Elsewhere it's a dry night and cloud breaks in the west could lead to a touch of frost.

Tomorrow outbreaks of rain push into the north west during the afternoon. Elsewhere an overcast day and damp day is expected.

As we head through Tuesday and Wednesday a transition to more unsettled conditions gradually spreads southeastwards. During the second half of the week all regions can expect wet and windy spells of weather with the worst conditions likely to be in the north west. There is a risk of it becoming stormy and over high ground in the north snow is possible at times.

Buzz looks ahead to mid December.
