The new working week is off to a dry and chilly start in much of the country with a touch of frost in places. In south west England and Wales it is milder and there are patchy outbreaks of rain.
Through the course of Monday spells of light rain spread northeastwards and these are followed in the south west by brighter and drier conditions. During the afternoon heavier and more persistent rain pushes into Northern Ireland and western Scotland.
Maximum temperatures range from about 6C (42F) in the north to 12C (54F) in the south west. See the rainfall radar for the latest view.
Tonight another area of wet weather moves eastwards across southern and central regions. Elsewhere it becomes mostly dry and clear spells develop in northern regions.
Tomorrow rain in the south spreads eastwards with drier conditions following on from the west. The north should be mostly dry and some sunny spells are likely.
During the middle of the week it stays quite mild and changeable in the west but the east should often be dry. By the weekend high pressure is expected to keep things mostly dry but Atlantic disturbances may continue to bring rain into the north west. Eastern areas could become colder with an increasing risk of nighttime frosts.

The 16 day GEFS ensemble shows a changeable and mild picture early in the period before a drier and cooler spells develops. Towards the end of the period there are suggestions of it turning more changeable and milder.
