There was a short heatwave from the 19th to the 21st of June 1936, when maxima got into the 30s.  31.7C on the 20th and 21st are both date records. The heatwave did not last long though as it turned into an increasingly thundery breakdown with heavy thunderstorms breaking out over many western and southern areas.

Quite severe flooding events considering now if anywhere has a flood it has to be somehow implied it is the worst ever and AGW must somehow be involved.

The newspaper headlines could have been written last week, but I loved the little snippet about 'girls in bathing costumes helped bale out houses'
