Perfectly fine since 2003 as a rule if a player in possesion passes the ball back or level to another player beyond the last defender the the goal will stand thank Ruud Van  Nistlerooy for that .

It was news to me that the goal was not offside. Navas was clearly in an offside position when the ball was initially played forward to Iniesta (see freeze frame below). Although he was not the active player at that point, surely he became active when Iniesta passed the ball to him (by which time we was in an onside position, being behind the ball)?

Bizarrely, as far as I can tell those same words were quoted by the pundits last night to prove that the goal was onside.

Just back from the 40c + heat of sharm el sheikh where i got the chance to view Englands and a few other games. England have done well to get into a situation where just a point will be enough to qualify. Having said that England have been pretty dire at times even the come back against Sweden hardly raised a semi !!!  I thought Parker was pretty poor against the Swedes and he is a player who we need on form. I am not going to 2nd guess how England will line up tonight, i really have no idea, the back 4 and goalie pick themselves. Gerrard (tho not the player he once was) will start likewise Rooney. Wouldnt be upset if Jones started in midfield tho i doubt it....but the rest of the positions and formation is up for grabs. Ukraine are capable of very neat and quick passing thru midfield to the front men..maybe a case for a strong midfield 3 with 2 wide players supporting Rooney...

Rooney and Welbeck up front for England.

No Schevchenko is a huge blow for Ukraine.

Doesn't look so far that Ukraine is missing him to much, except maybe in the finishing.

Yep, all Ukraine in the first 20 mins. More composed on the ball, better passers and more cutting. England have offered nothing yet in these early stages. One thing in England's favour is the longer the game goes on with no Ukraine goal, the more they will have to take chances.

At the moment it looks just a matter of time before Ukraine score. Rooney close with Englands one chance. Maybe should have done better.

I actually think England have gotten worse as the tournament has gone on.

This is a team playing with total fear. It's dire.

In many ways if England go out this evening it will be like having mercy on an old dog by putting it to sleep.

Dreadful play by England,  Rooney is of the pace which is not surprising. Milner looks ponderous, the only bright point is Hart and Terry, thank god he's not locked up yet!

Another very poor half from England. Still, they have the box seat at present.

Allowing the opposition to come at you and soak up the pressure is fine, provided that you have skill and flair up front, England have neither in the present line up. Hopefully there will changes for the second half.

How long is Hodgsons contract for?, I can't stand too much more of a very negative style of play.

Ha! Thought that would do the twick.

Having said that, my nan could have scored from there, and she's been dead since 2003.
