BBC weather - torrential downpours tomorrow for The Midlands East Wales and NW England. Heavy showers elsewhere but not so slow moving.
Showers on Friday. Heavy rain over the weekend though some uncertainty.
Just saw a distant flash of lightning in dark skies to my east - but once again, its all bypassing my location as it moves away from here.
2 thundery showers here today, with numerous other heavy showers.

There was also heavy showers in Langley but I think West Ewell got it hit hard today at 30.3mm of rain, 19mm in Iver and 17mm in Chessington.
Showers starting to get going now on the radar.
Should be an interesting afternoon.
The free Metro newspaper on the train the other day came up with a new imaginative description to go with "mini" tornado, "freak" tornado, etc...
They described it as a "Mid-air tornado"........
It just gets worse doesn't it. Ultimately, despite attempts at education, your average journo lives in a different world
I personally don't see the problem with 'mini tornado' myself..
You would if one blew your house away !
Nice display of 'cloud streets' in the current shower pattern

Umm, the old mini-tornado debacle.I suppose those thinking 'mini' tornado is sensible call anyone under 5ft a 'mini' person, a small tree a 'mini' tree, or a small egg a 'mini' egg (ok, bad example).
Tornados, both in the UK and elsewhere, are classified by a scale related to intensity measured against the distribution and type of damage they cause. A weak tornado causes less dmage than say a moderate strength one, etc. The term 'mini' does not exist in any official classification so I do not recognise the term. This particular event looks like a T2 ish on the Torro scale (EF0-1 on the enhanced Fujita), i findeed a tornado is responsible as it's difficult to say just from photographs, and once again a trampoline is involved. It's amazing how many times trampolines are sent flying and I sometimes think it's the same one every time LOL.
