Winter draws to a close as far as the MetO is concerned, so let's not bore with that pedantic argument again. Time for a new thread.

Keep it on topic please. Usual rules apply.

I would say we definitely in for a cold spring and largely unsettled - we are going to have till the second half of April for a sizeable warm up of spring warmth - that is to reach a temp of 14 or 15c by day

Last Spring, or more precisely April raised the bar so high in terms of sunshine and warmth. It was the warmest every Spring, so we are 99% guaranteed a colder Spring than last year.

I feel this coming March will see the battle continuing between the cold block to the east and milder Atlantic air trying to assert itself. Therefore it could be quite a wet month for the NW, drier and colder the further SE you are.

For the rest of Spring i would say rainfall will be approacing what we would expect, so not as HP dominated as last year. And temperatures will be a little above average.

CET precictions

March 5.9c

April 8.4c

May 11.9c

Yes finally winter is drawing to a close and spring is almost here I would love to have another spring like last year that would be great, and to be honest I wouldn't bet against this spring having temperatures above normal.

It's been a while since we've had a cold, wintry Spring, 2008 was our last proper March snowfall here, since then, snow in March has been unusually absent.

Anyway, let's leave the Spanish plumes until they actually have any use, say, May? Looking forward to the storms already

CFS suggests we lose a lot of the northern blocking in March and April;

http://www.cpc.ncep.noaa.gov/products/people/wwang/cfs_fcst/images3/glbz700Mon.gif

With high pressure generally favoured to the west and south-west. If these pressure amoms come off March and April might not be too bad at all.

A snowy Easter in 2012 would make a nice contrast to the very warm and sunny Easter in 2011.

I have a feeling there will be more snow flurries to come in March and it will be slow to warm up.

April will get off to a cool start but will bring warm sunshine towards the middle and end.

May will be very warm, sunny and dry.

And - pigs might fly!

Dare i say it even felt a bit like Spring today for brief periods in the sun and out of the wind. The increasing light levels are getting really quite noticeable, as is the strength of the sun. Just a pity there have been quite a number of showers around.

Anything to keep the thunderstorms at bay?

I have no idea what the weather is going to do and I am not sure anyone else can make much more of a guess, but my gut feel is that we are due a very wet spring some time soon and it could just be this one.

March: Cooler than average but mainly dry

April: Just above average but with a lot of rain

May: Wet start, dry and warm end

I remember last year when people were doubting whether summer 2011 would be good given spring 2011 was following the same route as spring 2007 - and their fears were proved correct.
