Half way point in the winter of 2011/12.Combining the December CET of 6.0 and the latest Hadley at 6.4 gives an average to date of 6.1C

Redmoon on 6.2 and Lazy wind on  6.0a re the nearest with Celtic 1888 on 5.7C in shouting distance.

If January stays as it is I reckon I'm going to need a new record breakingly cold month, probably in the region of -3.3C for February, for my prediction to come off. Well records are there to be broken. Eternal optimist.

Chances of this have risen from about 0% to about 1% on current model output!

Assuming CET for January is adjusted to 5.5C,and with 6.0 for December, I calculate that to get whole winter down to below average ie 4.4C requires Feb  to come in at 1.6C or below

Well, I said I'd be relying on February being very cold indeed, and with a milder Jannuary than I envisioned, I sure do need something quite extraordinary!

In fact, if the CET does end up at 5.5C for January then I'm looking for a Feb CET of -3.4C by my calculations

If your out, then I'm definately long gone, i can just about envisage a new record breakingly cold Feb, but not by that margin.

Two months in and we are just about 1C above average.

A February CET of 2.1C would bring us in bang on average for this winter. Anything less than that would mean a fourth consecutive below average winter which would be quite impressive, especially given the very warm first half of the winter.

With feb 1-13th at 0.2C calculate that winter CET cumulative fell to 4.0.With a forecast average of 5.6 for rest of month final winter figure would be around 5.0c

Yes I agree Roger. Taking my CET figures for February rather than the laughable data Hadley has put out so far I currently estimate the winter CET will come in at 4.98C. So something very close to 5C looks about right.

It looks like the winners here will either be Trickster and speckledjim or sydneyontees

Using Hadley final winter  CET figure is 5.1C .This means there are two winners-Trickster and SpeckledJim both exactly on 5.1 C.Congratulations!
